SANDY PETERSEN
aka the
Great Old One aka
The Only Old One aka
Mr. Shiny aka
Carl Sanford aka
Uncle Sandy is the original designer of the roleplaying phenomenon
Call of Cthulhu and thus played a key role in making
Cthulhu and
Lovecraft household names all around the world. Sandy is the most influential shaper of the fantasy world Glorantha after Greg Stafford himself. Much lesser know is that Mr. Petersen is also responsible for much of the fun you had playing computer games like
Doom (Thanks for saving the shotgun!),
Quake and the
Age of Empires ("Wololooo!") series. Now Sandy pursues his third-act career as successful board game designer creating titles like
Cthulhu Wars,
Glorantha: The Gods War,
Planet Apocalypse and the upcoming
Hyperspace with his own company
Petersen Games. Sandy is also the
Vice-president of the Board of Directors of
Chaosium, Inc. and acts as the
Chief Creative Consultant and
Guidance Ro-Man for the legendary and indestructible publisher. All Krakeneers can look forward to play-test sessions of Sandy's latest creations, lore heavy seminars, disturbing-alarming-and-hilarious movies, intriguing chats and — as the only event honored to receive such a treat — an exclusive Call of Cthulhu scenario sprung fresh from his nightmares for the Horror Lottery. The only thing that can cause him SAN loss is
Daniel der Zauberer.
LYNNE HARDY discovered roleplaying games at university thanks to the
Seattle Seahawks. (Sport and roleplaying? Who’d have thought it!) The first RPG she ever played was
RuneQuest, closely followed by
Call of Cthulhu. A cheeky letter to
Wizards of the Coast got her into the gaming industry and, like a bad penny, she has refused to go away ever since. Over the last two decades, she has worked for
Nightfall Games,
Pelgrane Press,
Cubicle Seven,
Modiphius and
Green Ronin, amongst numerous others, wearing either her writer’s or editor’s hat (or both!), as well as creating her own steampunk pulp adventure game (
Cogs, Cakes and Swordsticks) while occasionally dabbling in the field of short story writing and winning awards for her work. She is currently being kept out of mischief (allegedly) as
Assistant Editor for the
Call of Cthulhu RPG and formed part of the team responsible for updating its legendary
Masks of Nyarlathotep campaign. Her modern-day
Call of Cthulhu scenario,
Scritch Scratch, was also this year’s
Chaosium contribution to
Free RPG Day. When she’s not writing and editing, she gives talks and workshops on traditional embroidery techniques. She has even been known to enjoy the odd cocktail or two …
IAN COOPER is
Chaosium's
Line Editor for HeroQuest. A native Londoner, and a tattooed, pierced, and bearded gamer, he has been playing games for over 30 years. After starting with
Traveller, and then long years of
D&D a copy of
Cults of Prax, originally purchased to use in his
D&D game, Ian began a life-long love affair with Greg Stafford's creation of
Glorantha and
Chaosium's other games.
RuneQuest and following that a range of BRP games began to fill his life:
Call of Cthulhu,
Elfquest and the sadly missed
Ringworld amongst them. After a brief hiatus from gaming in his twenties ('the beer is good years') Ian returned to gaming in his thirties, energized by
Hero Wars and the new wave of story games from the indie scene. He began writing, working with fan publishers
The Unspoken Word to detail the
Tarsh Exiles, graduating to
Issaries to write canon material for the
Sartar Rising series and working on
Dragon Pass: Land of Thunder. For
Moon Design Publications he contributed to
Sartar Kingodom of Heroes, the
Sartar Companion and
HeroQuest Glorantha. Ian's proudest achievement so far is being published by
Chaosium, returning to where it all began with the company that so inspired him in his teens, with
The Coming Storm and
The Eleven Lights, the epic
HeroQuest campaign set in
Sartar.
JASON DURALL got started in the RPG industry with
Chaosium, play-testing and writing a tiny bit of
Elric! He wrote
Slaves of Fate for the ill-fated
Dragon Lords of Melnibone. He's best-known for
Basic Roleplaying and has worked on
Cthulhu/BRP-based games such
Magic World,
The Laundry,
World War Cthulhu, and
Achtung! Cthulhu including
Assault on the Mountains of Madness. Other work includes material for
Amber Diceless Roleplaying,
Conan the Roleplaying Game,
The Lord of the Rings,
Silver Age Sentinels,
Supernatural,
A Game of Thrones,
Serenity,
Battlestar Galactica and
Lords of Gossamer & Shadow, a diceless roleplaying game from
Rite Publishing. His professional career has largely been in the computer games industry, as lead worldbuilder for
Shadowbane, creative lead for
Wizard101 and
Pirate101, writer and designer for several unannounced/defunct games, and he was the lead designer on
Drakensang Online in Berlin for two and a half years. Now a full-time writer and game developer, Jason is managing
Modiphius's
Robert E Howard's Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of, and is the Line Editor for the ENnie Award-winning new edition of
RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha. He will be spearheading and contributing to other
Chaosium projects to come.
