The Thing in the Mountain
Author & Gamemaster: Philip GlassEver since the cracks opened and monsters flooded the land, despair reigned. Nobles and peasants alike bowed their heads in fear and terror, waking up every morning in dread anticipation of what new horror may be unleashed that day. In his desperation, the King founded the Guild of Hunters and gave it sweeping powers to do whatever it takes to rid the populace of the foul beings that roam the air, earth and waters of his kingdom. From every corner wise and bold men and women travelled to the King's City and founded the Guild - pledging their lives to banish all evil.
Ten Years have passed and things are not going well. Much has been learned through suffering and sacrifice, much has been gained - but more has been lost. The Guild of Hunters, having monopolised all knowledge of fighting, magic, mystical wisdom and engineering for its cause, has repeatedly abused the powers bestowed upon its members by the king and is almost more hated than the monsters it pursues. It has installed a large network of Guild Houses, where the tools of its trade are stored and knowledge is jealously guarded.
A band of young, inexperienced hunters is sent to a remote village in the eastern mountains. Little does anyone know that their first hunt might very well be their last - and the doom of a whole kingdom.
