Kubb

Designer: The Vikings
Host: Gary Bowerbank

Kubb is an old Viking game, played in the sunny outdoors; it's like Chess crossed with Bowling. Players hurl wooden batons at their opponent's knights, trying to knock them down and ultimately take out the King to claim victory. As you defeat your opponent's pieces, they're thrown back into your half of the pitch, making it more and more difficult for your foe to win – although the games at the first KRAKEN saw the advantage switch sides excitingly throughout most games. Watch out for Englanders who may bring in Sledging (a tactic from Cricket of mocking your opponent to break their concentration), do not be put off by their antics!

Billiards

Author: The French
Host: Everyone who wants to play

THE KRAKEN provides a stately Billiard table (or Pool table as its more commonly referred to in the USA) for informal gaming and a chance to break the ice with other attendees. This table has survived through wars, although like a Cthulhu Investigator it has not done so without scars, having a somewhat warped sense of reality and physics. Enjoy tests of skill on a challenging playing surface with fellow delegates, or marvel at their skill and luck with a glass of German Beer. Games are free for all!
