WORKSHOPS

Designing a HeroQuest Glorantha Scenario
for Publication

Hosts: Jörg Baumgartner & Robin Mitra

A case study of Jörg's current project Norinevra's Homecoming, an attempt to write a HeroQuest scenario for the German edition of HeroQuest. The frame of the scenario is a long road trip with a very special cargo through some of the hotspots of the Lunar occupation and expansion in the year before or of the Fall of Whitewall.

This is a mixture of project presentation, discussion of how to approach such a project, project scope and spin-offs, design goals, a discussion of art acquisition, art direction, map-making, and will cover topics such as self-publication and providing bonus material on the web. I am in the middle of designing this scenario/mini-campaign, and I appreciate input, expectations and ideas from players and narrators. Topics will include pre-generated characters and their use as NPCs or even FreeForm characters for key episodes. I will welcome any advice from published authors, editors, and artists. If you have your own project you would like to share or exchange experience about, feel free to present a pitch and some of the troubles you ran into. We'll be happy to talk about researching the Gloranthan background, the importance of canonical Glorantha, the pit traps of Gloranthan overload.

I'm also happy discuss various approaches to presenting a Gloranthan scenario book, such as 'Borderlands', 'Troll Pak', 'Sun County', 'River of Cradles', 'Strangers in Prax', 'Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes', 'Schatten in den Hügeln'. Perhaps some of the authors or editors of these tomes might tell an anecdote or piece of experience.
